Surface disinfection by hand leaves gaps — contact surfaces may be treated, but airborne pathogens, concealed surfaces, and complex geometries are missed. Electrostatic fogging delivers EPA-registered disinfectants as a fine mist that reaches every surface in a space, including the underside of furniture, inside cabinet interiors, and HVAC output zones that hand-wiping cannot access. Salem Steamer uses this technology for post-remediation environments, occupied spaces requiring pathogen reduction, rental properties, and commercial facilities requiring documented disinfection. Every application uses EPA List N or equivalent registered chemistry appropriate to the target pathogen or contaminant type.

Space Assessment & Chemistry Selection

The space is assessed for size, surface types, target pathogens or contaminants, and occupancy status. EPA-registered chemistry is selected based on the specific disinfection requirement — not a default product applied universally.

Pre-Treatment Preparation

Sensitive electronics, food surfaces, and items requiring protection are identified and addressed before fogging begins. Occupants, pets, and plants are cleared from the space for the treatment period and the required dwell time.

Electrostatic Fogging Application

Electrostatic fogging equipment applies the disinfectant solution as a charged mist that actively wraps around surfaces, ensuring coverage on all sides of three-dimensional objects — not just horizontal contact surfaces. Coverage is systematic, room by room.

Dwell Time & Ventilation

The space is allowed the required dwell time specified by the product's EPA registration to ensure full efficacy. The area is then ventilated according to the product protocol before re-occupancy is cleared.
